| Why the need for this course? |
Adult education
encompasses a broad perspective of life long education.
Its scope extends from basic literacy to life long learning
and includes wide range of themes of human resource
development and social justice such as universal education,
poverty alleviation, gender equality, environmental
sustainability, and reduction of HIV/AIDS. Adult educators
as change agents train adult learners for informed responsible
and active citizenship at the community level. In order
to accomplish these tasks they need to enhance their
understanding and skills. Inadequate understanding of
new issues constrains their ability to meet the technical
challenges of a vast and expanding domain like adult
education and lifelong learning. A specialised course
can enable them to take up programmes that are action
oriented, practical and relevant to the adult learners
directly. |

Adult Education
is both a field of practice and a field of study (discipline
within social sciences with its own body of knowledge
derived from research and critical reflection). Both
the academic and non-academic agencies are engaged,
to varying degrees, in providing some form of training
to trainers either for its members or wider community
or both. International organisations and donors are
involved in policy dialogue about adult education and
literacy. They mobilise and transfer resources; and
share global experiences. Such agencies also need to
be strengthened for supporting and promoting regional
and sub-regional networking in the area of adult education.
Adult education and lifelong learning is, therefore,
a specialised task. |

Responding
to the above educational need, PRIA Continuing Education
is launching a "Certificate in International Dimensions
of Adult Education and Lifelong learning", in a
distance education mode. The course aims to build basic
understanding of the scope and key issues of adult education
and lifelong learning as a worldwide field of practice.
It intends to empower and expand knowledge and skills
of the learners and update their professional expertise.

| Who can join? |
This course
presents opportunities to a wide and diverse spectrum
of learners both nationally (from within India) and
internationally. The eligible learners include adult
educators; variously known as facilitators/ animators/fieldworkers/development
workers; development professionals, and students, researchers
from State Resource Centers (SRCs), NGOs, Universities,
international organisations and donors. |

A range of conceptual
and practical issues on adult education and life
long learning raised in the course are, on the
one hand, tested in the field set up and, on the
other hand, enriched by networking with experts
and practitioners. |

national and international academics and practitioners
as part of guest faculty and its advisory committee.

The course material
is specially designed and developed to meet special
requirements of distance mode of education. It
includes in text reflection questions to stimulate
critical thinking and analysis. |

To
encourage maximum interaction between the instructor
and the learners a PRIA web board has been developed
wherein the students can post their queries, comments,
suggestions, and experiences and participate in
the online but asynchronous discussions. The students
can also access the tutor through emails and phone.

| Admission procedure |
| |
Eligibility:
The minimum required qualification is Bachelor's degree
in any subject Course.
|
| |
Mode of delivery:
The course is offered in a distance mode, making learning
accessible through part time study, outside working hours.
Distance delivery includes print materials, audio-visual
CDs, guest faculty and immediate and engaged communication
through web board. |

Duration : The course is of 3 months duration . |

Medium of instruction:
The course will be delivered in English. |

Credits and evaluation:
All the certificate programmes are of 8-credits and involve 240 hours of study. Evaluation will be based on written assignments in the form of reflection papers, Group work (virtual), Quiz and project work/ project proposal or an essay. |

Course fee:
The course fee is Rs.6000/- for applicants in india or 250 US$
for applicants outside India. For Afghanistan, Bangladesh,Bhutan,
Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka the fee is INR 7000/-payable
in one installment.

Payment of
fee: The fee is to be paid in Demand Draft
drawn in favour of "Society for Participatory Research
in Asia", payable at New Delhi. The fee can also
be paid through
Bank Transfer. |
