PRIA International Internship Programme
International
Perspectives on Citizenship, Democracy and Accountability
I.
Why the need for this course?
This programme
is a unique collaborative initiative
of PRIA Continuing Education (PCE)
in India and DRC (Development
Research Center) Citizenship Teaching
and Learning Project research
partners from various countries
as Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada,
India, Mexico, South Africa and
UK. DRC is a research consortium
based at the Institute of Development
Studies (IDS), Sussex. The programme
will consider a range of conceptual
and practical issues faced by
practitioners, adult educators,
researchers, resource providers
and policy makers in strengthening
citizenship, democracy and accountability.
It will facilitate critical analysis
of different debates and perspectives
on the themes and encourage the
development of innovative practices.
Completion
of this programme will enable
learners to develop critical understanding
on the concepts of citizenship,
democracy and accountability.
It will reinforce their understanding
on approaches for strengthening
inclusive citizenship, participatory
and accountable governance. It
will familiarize them with international
exemplars on the themes

Who can join?
This
program will be of interests to
those who are currently engaged
in or interested in learning about
international debates and practices
of citizenship, democracy and
accountability. It is especially
designed for individuals from
multi disciplinary backgrounds;
practitioners-CSO’s; government
officials; staff of bilateral
and multilateral institutions;
and policy makers and academia
located in countries of both North
and South regions. Candidates
for the course will be selected
on the basis of applications.
III.
Special features
As the course is a collaborative
initiative of PRIA and CTLP members
of DRC anchored in IDS, the course
shares insights developed from
both the researchers and the practitioners.
This
programme introduces practice
and theory of citizenship, democracy
and accountability from the international
perspective. To
encourage maximum interaction
between the instructor and the
learners, a PRIA web board has
been developed wherein the students
can post their queries, comments,
suggestions, and experiences and
participate in the online but
asynchronous discussions. The
students can also access the tutor
through emails and phone.
CTLP members will participate
as guest faculty.

Admission procedure
Eligibility:
The
minimum required qualification
is Bachelor's degree in any subject.
Applicants can be from India and
all parts of the world.
Mode
of delivery :The
course is offered in a distance
mode, making learning accessible
through part time study, outside
working hours. Distance delivery
includes print materials, audio-visual
CDs, guest faculty and immediate
and engaged communication through
web board.
Duration
:The
course is of 3 months duration.
Medium
of instruction :The
course will be delivered in English.
Credits
and evaluation :It
is a 8-credit course and involves
240 study - hours. Evaluation
will be based on written assignments
in the form of reflection papers
and project work.
Course
fee : The
course fee is Rs.6000/- or 250US$
for applicants outside India payable
in one installment. The fee is
INR 7000/- for applicants from
Afghanistan, Bangaladesh, Nepal,
Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.
Payment
of fee : The
fee is to be payed in Demand Draft
drawn in favour of "Society
for Participatory Research in
Asia", payable at New Delhi.
The fee can also be paid through
Bank
Transfer.
